The Bowlathon is considered one of the larger philanthropic events that the Tri-State Chapter puts on each year. It has been successful since its inception in 2019 . A few things have changed over the past couple of years in that we used to hold a 5K. We now independently fund the race and work with the town of Angola to host this event. The Bowlathon is run through the local bowling ally on the campus of Trine University.
The reason why we host this Bowlathon every year is to donate money to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. ‘The V Foundation’ is our sole philanthropic organization that we donate to, as appointed by International Delta Chi. The foundation is named for Jim Valvano, who started it himself in 1993. As a whole, Delta Chi Fraternity has raised over $1 million dollars for this cause over the past 10 years, and we currently have a set goal of $500,000 to donate to the ‘The V Foundation’ for the 2019 and 2020 school years. As a chapter, though, our goal this year is to raise $6,600 for ‘The V Foundation’. We think this is a reachable amount if everyone helps to raise money. We currently have 7 sponsors and are constantly looking for more. Closing on more sponsorships will allow a good portion of the donation money to come directly from companies, and the rest will be brought in by runners of the race.
The Bowlathon will be run in April 17th, 2020 at 6:30 pm, so we encourage everyone to attend and support the cause. It is a night of bowling fun. We hope to see everyone there to help end this horrendous disease. We are also striving to increase fraternal bonding between past and present actives in this brotherhood of a lifetime. Lastly, donations of any size are graciously accepted. Therefore, if you do not plan on attending, you can show your support by donating toward the cure for cancer.
